This Week's Money Saving Tip

There's a lot of 'Green' advice about how to save money, but for me, I think the best single piece of advice I've had, which has saved me the most, and been instantly measurable by the amount we top up our electricity and gas meters, is to wash our clothes at 30 degrees.

I've always used 60 degrees for whites, not just to get them whiter, but to kill the germs which live on our clothes, and never less than 40 degrees on the other items, so the thought of 30 degrees was hard to take but as long as the washing powder is good at killing germs AND cleaning, then there's no problem.

I've personally used Sainsburys' and Tesco's 2in1 powders, both made for 30 degree washes, with good results, so you don't have to buy the big brands. In fact, the Tesco brand is now a concentrated powder, so even with very dirty washing in a hard water area, you only need one scoop! Also, as proof of the germ killing power, a wash load was recently left in our machine for 2-3 days and surprisingly didn't need to be re-washed due to 'going off'!

30 Degree washes certainly get my vote!
